Hello everyone,

I had a recommendation to check out this forum from another Discord. I've lived my life in the IT field and my first computer was a TI-99/4A (still got it and running). Over the years I've picked up several things here and there, and figured this would be a good place to discuss.

Thanks for having me aboard.

Hey Duke. Welcome to the forums. Glad to hear you still have your first computer. Some of us on here are fortunate to still have our first, myself included.

Welcome! Are you within driving range of Lebanon? There's a monthly meeting of vintage computer folks at the Public Library there.

Welcome to the forum. I still have my original PC that I purchased with my own money (a Tandy 1400FD XT class portable). But it is not currently working. My first hand-me-down from my FIL was my NorthStar advantage. I'm not sure if it still works or not. I've been hesitant to try to turn it on after 30 years of no use. I do also own a TI99/4A but it is also not working. Too bad since I would like to have a working TI99.

That's a lot of repair work you've got there to handle! For these old machines, when I get them I definitely take time to test the power supply separately and check for shorts before I try and boot them up. Most TI-99's have been really reliable in my experience, and thankfully they are pretty inexpensive to pull another.

@Duke Togo , the TI99/4A does get a red light to glow when I power it on. But the keyboard is completely sheered off and there is no video display. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at repair of much beyond IBM PC compatibles. And I've tried my hand at some power supply and battery repairs on my 1400FD without success - so far. (Actually I was successful with the batteries but still have issues with the PS.)

I did manage to update my CoCo2 16K to 64K using the ram chips from a non-working CoCo2. I also managed to diagnose a faulty chip on the non-working CoCo2. I've yet to purchase a new chip for it. Mostly because I already have a working CoCo2. I tend to avoid the repair and end up using the computers that already work! :)

Yes, I can let it go. I will have to revisit it to see what is actually wrong with it. I have it logged somewhere but my memory is a little vague.
