How would I determine if a serial cable is a null modem. M one end, F other end.

every null modem cable I've ever used was female on both sides
I've got a null modem adapter that's male on one end and female on the other.every null modem cable I've ever used was female on both sides

I used it to make a null modem cable out of a F-F serial cable.funny you mention that, I actually do too but I've never used it - not sure what the use case is
Check pin 2 on one side and see if it connects to pin 3 on the other side using a multimeter.
Have to work out how to access the female connecter wire?
Good call, Dave... you musta' been a chief engineer at one time.Poke a short piece of bare wire into the socket.

Gee, isn't poking best done in the darkest hours? The poking of the wire will commence tomorrow. It's getting late here.

Tomorrow has been cancelled.
No poking of the wire needed. I connected through the Null Modem dongle (great word, dongle. Like flange.) and the serial cable. I had a db25 to 9 adapter with a female connector so I was able to connect the male end of the cable to the second pc. experimenting with interlink.
