Utility for MFM/IDE/ESDI/CF Drives

Which part? The OP was noting that CF cards work in 8-bit mode and the "brainwave" was that maybe it just might take a BIOS tweak to get them to work in XTA ports, but then it was clarified that there are other differences between XTA and '8 bit ATA' that rules out a "plug and play" software only solution on existing XTA ports... but it should be pretty trivial to use this capability to make "dumbed-down" XTIDE cards that don't need latches necessary to handle 16-bit devices. And, well, that was made so, 8-bit XT-CF cards are now a dime a dozen.

FWIW, there *was* a thread a couple years ago where someone modified the XTA port on their... Zenith EZ-PC? to be able to use the XT-CF BIOS to drive a CF card, but it took some trace cutting, etc, to make it so.
