In circuit emulator recommendations (Z80 & 6502) ?

Folks,

can anyone recommend a decent, affordable In Circuit Emulator rig for Z80 and 6502 based systems ?

Main use cases for me would be for debugging and development - not sure what other use cases would be !

good ones like flukes are expensive, and fluke z80 pods are ludicrous prices.

You'll probably have to get separate ones for z80 + 6502. Sometimes for cheap you will find ZAX ICE machines. I have a Zax z80, but there are also the Nicolet Nice (and clones). they all do the same thing and are designed for the DIP z80's of yesteryear (you can get modern dip z80 at 20mhz... these old ICE wont tolerate that I dont believe, mine had some issues at least).

Its funny, I came across the GODIL based solution in your first link earlier today. It looks pretty flexible and can be adapted to both my target processor types with software/jumpers. I have ordered the device and associated programmer - all for less than £100 so will see how I get on.

ok. the wiki says to get model TE0261, which they dont sell at the store anymore. Which device model did you get?

yes.. it suggests the 500 cell version of TE0261. The shop only sells TE0260 (500 cell) and TE0262 (250 and 500 cell) models. Not the 250 or 500 cell TE0261 model the wiki says to get.

The TE0260 is 4x25 contact points. the TE0262 is 2x50 female IDC. I believe the TE0261 is 2x40 male IDC, which can plug right into the DIP socket of z80/6502. The 0260/0262 are not directly pluggable into the dip socket to replace z80/6502.

It's a shame that there are now supply issues with the OHO GODILs - specifically the ones that have the 40 pin DIL header on the bottom are no longer available.

The best OHO option currently available is the "bare module" and then solder on your own headers:
