Epson PX-8 Oval Display Adaptor

I finally got my own build of the UD-80 working. I had a little trouble initially since the first 6803 I tried seem to be either bad or fake, but after popping it out and replacing it with another things started working correctly. I still need to make the cable for connecting it to my PX-8, but I was able to use a standard 9 pin serial cable to get my laptop to download the the drivers via filink. I also put together an updated BOM list with digikey/mouser part numbers I used for ordering if anyone else is interested. Thanks a lot to @fjkraan for his work on reverse engineering this piece of hardware.PXL_20240328_122042143.jpg

Congratulations! It is exiting when someone can reproduce something I cobbled together.

Greetings,
Fred Jan

Absolutely awesome work. Even though I have the original, I'm tempted to make the modern version too! Fantastic! 😁

Thank you Fred once again for making me my UD-80.
Here it is running on my PX-4 with a 128K RAM disk, utilizing the EPROM programmer cartridge II.
These are the only 2 photos I have of it working currently as the day it arrived I was very unwell as a result of my genetic disorder but I nonetheless was very excited to see it work, so I wrangled together the world's worst monitor setup atop my PX-16 to test it for a bit before going back to sleep for 900 years.

I will add that there appears to be a problem with the graphic characters, the pretty pictures I made in BASIC arrive on the CRT jumbled, with at least 1 character that I don't even recognize as being HX-20/PX4/8 related, and graphic statements like plotting lines are not translated to the CRT and instead drawn on the blank LCD.

The same can be said for screen dumps in BASIC and not in BASIC, the LCD contents are still copied to the printer as opposed to the CRT contents.

In addition to that, upon clearing of the screen usually in BASIC but I noticed this with Dialtex-4 too so probably also regular CP/M programs is that the first few characters of the first entry of first few entries of text will have some letters missing.

Thanks for the parts list. Is the circuit board open source? Can I order one. I'd like to make one of these.

Brian, thanks for the display at VCF MW last weekend. I enjoyed seeing you and the UD-80+.
